Equipment

Rice cooker

A dedicated pot that cooks and holds rice. Fuzzy-logic machines are nicer; a simple switch still works.

When you need it

If you eat rice several times a week. Optional if you already own a saucepan and a timer.

What to look for

A thick inner pot, a useful keep-warm, and a size that matches your household — not a banquet cooker for two.

Alternatives

Saucepan, tight lid, rest off the heat. Absorption method is a recipe, not a gadget.

Care

Wash the inner pot; keep the heating plate dry.
