Blackberries
The clustered fruit of the bramble, each berry a bunch of small drupelets around a core.
Origin
Wild across Europe and North America, and also farmed.
Flavour
Sweet-tart, winey, and floral when ripe. Underripe fruit is sharp.
How to use it
Eat them fresh, or cook them briefly with sugar for a sauce or a crumble.
Storage
Refrigerate in a single layer and eat within a couple of days. They freeze well.
