A ripe sweet pepper, the red fruit of Capsicum annuum. It is the same plant as a green pepper, left on the plant until the flesh turns sweet and red.

Origin

Grown in warm fields worldwide from a species first cultivated in the Americas.

Flavour

Sweet, juicy, and mildly grassy.

How to use it

Eat it raw, roast it until the skin blisters, or stew it into sauces.

Storage

Refrigerate whole peppers and use them within a week.
