Habanero Pepper

A very hot lantern-shaped chilli, Capsicum chinense, with a fruity flavour under the heat. It is close kin to the Scotch bonnet.

Origin

Cultivated in the Caribbean, Central America, and Yucatán, and now elsewhere.

Flavour

Fruity, floral, and extremely hot.

How to use it

Use a little, finely chopped, in sauces and marinades. Wear care with the seeds and ribs, and wash your hands.

Storage

Refrigerate fresh pods, or freeze them.
