Allspice Berries

The dried unripe berry of Pimenta dioica, a tropical myrtle. One berry carries notes of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg together, which is why it was named allspice.

Origin

Native to the Caribbean and Central America, especially Jamaica.

Flavour

Warm, sweet, and clove-like.

How to use it

Use the whole berry in pickles and stews, or grind it for baking.

Storage

Airtight and dark. Whole berries outlast the powder.
