Longan

The fruit of Dimocarpus longan, a translucent aril around a dark glossy seed, inside a thin tan shell. It is a close relative of lychee.

Origin

A tree of southern China and Southeast Asia.

Flavour

Sweet, musky, and milder than lychee.

How to use it

Peel and eat the aril fresh, or poach tinned longans in desserts.

Storage

Refrigerate fresh fruit. Eat it soon. Tinned fruit follows the can.
