Saskatoon Berries

The purple berry of the saskatoon bush, Amelanchier alnifolia, a shrubby relative of the apple. The fruit looks like a blueberry and tastes a little of almond.

Native to the prairies and woods of North America.

Flavour

Sweet, mild, and almond-like, with edible seeds.

How to use it

Eat them fresh, or bake them in pies. They are drier than blueberries.

Refrigerate briefly, or freeze.
